on how I feel about the fact that Lent has arrived without me noticing or caring, and I have no time for reflection or penitence.  

Indication that my life is a bit out of whack?  Still getting through this first year of work competently is priority one.  My household depends on this.

Faithful or no, it is not a bad idea to have some moments of quiet reflection on your life and what is going right or wrong and how you can better things.  Lent is not all guilt and fasting, but the idea of feeling penitent as old fashioned as that sounds would be a great (ahem chrisbrooooooooownandamillionothers) idea for some people.
