went chasing waterfalls
there is a pretty high one about 4 miles from here.  We walked in and out with the doggies.  It is a muddy walk, but I like the easy hike, and there are always foreign grad students entertaining visiting relations with a visit to the local (free this season) attraction. So it’s fun to people watch.  Grad students with camera clad parents, young couples, a few mixed family groups of the...

“Well, I’ve changed the course of music five or six times. What have you done...”
– Miles Davis to Nancy Reagan at a White House dinner in 1987 after she’d inquired as to what he’d done with his life to merit an invitation. source  (via marxisforbros) Eh this is completely wrong. He was actually quite fond of the Reagans. It was at a White House dinner however. Here is what...

Sir B.
woke up in a happy, jokey-punning, singing mood.  I told him some village is missing their idiot.  Although I may have had an incredulous smile on my face when I did it?   I confess that I am sometimes not a nice person before my morning coffee.  I am ok with foolish glee after that.  I must go find that jester hat and put it on him.

the xmas tree now standing
and I have a complicated relationship.  It is a slightly precariously tilted work of art, and I am sad we only have one more week together.  Our time together was too short.  (I take it down the weekend of the 6th of Jan.)

Re: moderate drinking
some folks can and do this (RQ & Sir B., and Queen Mum are samples) some folks can not do this, can never learn to do this.  Those that can’t are generally alcoholics or may become so.  (unnamed members of RQ’s family tree).

In the dog house again!
Poppy did a very bad thing, a dog normal thing- but it scared CeCe, and Red and CeCe are both still upset about it.  This was two days ago now.  Yesterday she ravaged the kitchen trash because Sir B. as home honey forgot to put the trash out of reach when he left to run errands.  If I had a cone of shame she’d be wearing it.  She has been lying on the dog blanket that is behind two chairs...

all persons launched
TB and K are on the drive to Boston, I expect TB will get to drive most of the way there, as K. will have to drive back to Hip-Shire alone.  Sir B. and Red did the hot/fast/careful wash and dry of china, fragile glasses, and good stainless. (No silver service this Xmas). I then polished two silver candle sticks and the one silver serving spoon we used. Now we can be lazy about finishing the rest...

dinner is digesting, guests have drifted off

Stocking and presents opened.  All claim to be delighted.    Sir B. outdid himself with brunch-fest.  Homemade cinnamon rolls, two types of sausage, scrambled eggs, and a Red Queen fruit salad.   Dinner will be roastbeast and twice bake potatoes, veggies, rolls, and pie. Also an awesome-sauce cookie plate of course.   We are currently noses into new CD’s or books, except Grandpa who...

Christmas eve
Sir B. and both children are out shopping, Fa in Law is bumbling around doing his thing, he is a great putterer.  Sometimes he even does the dishes while puttering!   Ma in Law is puttering around the internet. Me too.  I tidied up my Etsy shop and had breakfast, now I am going to find the last few presents (where did I put them?) and get those wrapped. I expect a trip to the dog park will also...

ate lunch at my desk and then rushed home on an extra long lunch to scrub and mop the kitchen floor,  mop the bathroom, and vacuum the living room.   I did all the dishes and cleaned the counters in the kitchen before I left this morning.  Now if I can get the downstairs bath tidy and deal with my jewelry bits in the dining room I might be ok with the In Laws coming through my door tomorrow.  ...

knocked a full cup over while being handed paperwork. All over the desk!   The 2012 agenda is shot, but I did not lose any important letters or paperwork in the flood.  My first major work spill since I started (about six months ago).  That is a long time for me.  The cream colored sweater will need some spot treating when I get home.  Imp of Chaos seems to find cream or white work...

Cookie fail= bloody mess
pulled frozen cookie dough to make some more cream cheese jam cookies, and they came out looking (red raspberry) like infected flesh wound cookies!  I couldn’t understand what went so wrong.  It was the night I was mad at all the things children, so I chalked it up to inattention.  Then last night I pulled the actual jam cookie dough out of freezer (labeled and everything) and realized that...

K. speaks reason
kelsium: Here are my feelings on trigger warnings. On some level yes, I believe that the children of the Internet should toughen up, but that comes from a place of being triggered occasionally by things that are never, ever going to have trigger warnings and shouldn’t because they’re my own ish. in the extras cabinet in the basement expired in 2007.   We don’t use it much because Red is not a fan of that flavor.  But we do make 7 layer bars every year, so I am not sure how that happened.  I mean they are considered ok for two years since it is dried ah fruit?  So 2005 maybe.   Sir B. just accidentally bought two more bags, so he made some choc/rice crispy/coconut balls feel free to...
