You are a dunderpoop pile of automojunk
So in this house we have a little game of Russian roulette we play called buying old cars in northern climate. Normally we win. This time we will hopefully call it a draw.
TB’s car he has not quite paid back fully failed by spectacular dollars (hahahahahahah!!!! n o t h a p p e n i n g) with a decent salvage resale, and the insurance refund he/we break even?
But winter in far far east...

it is the last day (so thanks)
of that social construct we call a calendar year.
This day starts as usual with dog snuggles, bathroom breaks, coffee making, breakfast eating, and sipping mocha java on the LR couch with snoozing dogs bookends. I started this blog a little less than a year ago, when my girlchild was flying the coop to finish her degree after I was her lurker for awhile. (B is my lurker now).
Thanks you...

Ballari her royal catness and
Popster the lab-enji puppy had a silent battle of wills tonight. Ever since B. snuck a few good licks of chicken gravey out of her bowl about a week ago; Poppy has been hovering protectively around her food dish when the cat is near.
Ballari decided to camel up (as we call it when she stands drinking about a gallon at a time) while Poppy was eating her dinner.
Poppy tried her I am bigger and...

man I blew it
no naked photos of myself, PK (before offspring) in the photo albums. Good god, how can I prove my debauchery?
[Although there is a picture of clearly hung over me on my dormroom bed with a man who is clearly not their father and my college sweetheart.]
Maybe I should start now to freak out the grandchildren (if I ever get any)?
Who has a hottub? I’m coming over and bringing the Jack...

The puppy still likes to chew and chew and chew
Poppycock is about a year old now. A stray, so we are not sure, but there abouts anyway. They say that Lab-types are late to show maturity, and I believe it. She is bouncy goofy, has the a very limited ability to follow the rules, and is good natured while wrecking havoc. I think she may hit her third birthday before acting with some adult dog dignity.
She “helped” me clean out...

Quote for the day. We used to say “keep on truckin” (back in that 70’s show years)

addendum to Arts Center
if you are wondering how the district agreed to pay for a tech mentor, here is the deal:
the tech director pays for him/herself by being in charge of the expensive things we need and keeping them from walking or being broken or used by idiot band directors who think they know stuff. But mostly by booking in paying rentals for while the space is not being used by the disctrict. A full time...

New Performing Arts Center
This will be of interest only to the theater/music nerd that follow. I am a drama mama. I was the master make-up guru for many years, and was the theater liason for the Fine Arts Booster Group [all arts for all children]. There is a fairly large (most of the academic community that rules the region actually sends their children to this public school because it is damn good) public HS in the...

maybe Mahjong on computer?
I need to write something entertaining or witty or happy about my life here, or ah go do clean all the things in kitchen. With the four of us home in high cook/bake/eat mode the rate of dirtying dishes far exceeds the rate of the one semi-pokey bottle washer who sometimes goes by Red Queen that transforms them to clean.
Also my laptop battery power is about out, so must move butt at any rate...

breaking news
Talent Boy is delivered to airport by the superduper lifesavers Bucky and Kelsium; and most importantly his flight delayed by an hour due to crew minimum layover requirements is in route. It will be interesting to hear if teammates coming from frozen wastelands & far far east make the connection.
Anyway he is off to do more death defying double-flippy-twisty-jumps off the height of roofs...

Big NEWS the world is made of Cheez-its!
neverbehopeless:
foxesthroughfences:
Or perhaps you and I are working with different definitions of open-mindedness - yours seems to have something to do with accepting every argument as valid, regardless of whether or not they’re supported by fact. (In that case: The world is made of Cheez-its, Barack Obama is a Muslim cactus, and I travel to school on a magic carpet powered only by my...

and speaking of glass
Our holiday mood just kinda came to a screeching halt. TB has to depart and we will not see him again for at least three months (if we are lucky.) And K. & B have to make an irritating and unplanned and costly several hour drive to get him to his connecting flight and so what was to be a short jaunt to the local (20 minutes only because we cant crow-fly across the lake, and have to go down...

shame on me
for the third time I have tried to catch a falling wine glass with my hand/hands. Each time this has ended badly for both myself and the wine glass.
B. was convinced I had tried to catch it on the bounce off the floor, I said no I reached out for it right as it tipped off the drainer on the counter.
The most recent wine glass related injury that did not involve any alcohol (11am this morning)...

V. Girls music makes me
sleepy. I grew up in the badass Rock music era. Her stuff is generally too slow and way too mellow.
Of course she is also the one that keeps me at all current in music but generally I only like the most peppy songs of the groups she listens to.

B's Mom was irritated
when we got through our round of Xmas presents and she had not received anything Red Queen crafted. B. talks to her on Sunday nights every week and my craft projects have been included in the weekly reports for months now. Yesterday, she turned to me and said in a really cranky tone “I can’t believe I didn’t get something made by you!” and I said, “Oh well, you...

operation Clean All the Things is
finished, or rather stalled after we (the parent people) mostly tidied the LR and Kitchen got rid of present debris, started laundry, and vacuumed the carpets.
The young adults snuggled into the hide-a-bed opened couch piled with blankets in the downstairs family room and finished their 16 hour Community Season 1 showing at about 5am this morning. This is a danger from getting entire seasons...
The kitchen looks? and games night fun
like some frat boys came over and had a bender at my house? The living room is not much better. And it was just the four of us immediate family after 10am. Well, we had a wonderful time. Clayton’s Chelsea Buns (cinnamon buns to most of you) and a fresh citrus salad for breakfast, and B.’s homemade bread and lasagna with a Waldorf salad for dinner. Lots of alcohol and Chex mix pieces...

Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you...
– Anne Herbert (via bookobsessed)

TOAST! a rant about toasters
We have been limping along on a minimally functional toaster. It lost it’s ability to stop toasting quite some time ago (like 8 months? a year?) but it would still get warm and toast things if you put it on the darkest/burnt settings, of course then you have to remember to check it, since it will never ever be popping back up. So this was really a set it on fire and burn the toast and the...
Glad tidings of joy to you
We are having a most chill Christmas Day. We got up at eight and did an inexpensive version of Christmas with the grantparents after being up until 2am, and then B’s parents got in the car to drive to Ohio and do another family celebration tomorrow. Gma&Gpa bless their tired hearts, took their Methodist behinds with us to the Episcopal midnight service. Being quiet and self contained...

Poppy the puppy is developing food issues
V. Girl and I laugh about how this 12ish month old dog is so tempermentally like her, but seriously? This shitz is a bit scary.
The dogs have been getting fed twice a day since we picked her up off the street 9 months ago. Cece had previously been feed her dog biscuits (keep your teeth clean) in the morning, and when Poppy joined us she was in growth mode and needed to be feed twice a day. I...

wonkers tumblr!
We will see if this posts. I have cleaned all things basement-ish, and am now waiting patiently for their arrival. We still have a mattress pad in the dryer, but the house looks as under control as it ever is. My children and my Jack and coke with lime are sufficient company at the moment.
NY TIMES: Senate reaches deal on 9/11 workers... →
A reminder that making a big stink about some things can effect change. Oh look, we are not really ok with the screw the real hero’s game, even the conservatives found that to be in bad taste.
Did anyone tell them that some of those responders are people of color? Oh, maybe thats why they needed to knock the price tag down a couple of million to make it palatable.
Sorry for the sarcasm...
